Has ESG ever been more important than it is today? We don’t think so. And nor does Alice Kuepper from The Winning Group, who joined us on Power Retail’s webinar series to unpack this most pressing of issues. Something we are extremely passionate about is the reduction of carbon footprints in the eCommerce industry
At Shippit, our North Star is to power 200m deliveries without waste by 2025. Every decision we make is with that goal in mind.
Sitting at the crossroads of retailers, carriers, and shoppers, we’re in a unique position to foster industry collaboration and commitment toward sustainability. Shippit’s seen evidence, through our technology, research and pilot programs, that eCommerce can become more sustainable than bricks-and-mortar. That gives us even more conviction and drive.
As the industry gears up for regulatory changes, retailers will soon be required to report on scope 3 emissions, encompassing their entire supply chain. It’s important to start preparing now, so that retailers aren’t caught out as the government has made it very clear that there will be repercussions should businesses fail to comply or engage in greenwashing.
While ESG reporting may seem like a bureaucratic burden, it presents an opportunity for retailers to establish a competitive advantage. In an era where consumers are socially conscious, retailers can build meaningful bonds by embracing sustainability. However, it’s important to avoid greenwashing by maintaining transparency and commitment to reducing emissions.
With government regulations looming, we’re helping retailers meet their requirements. We are developing a carbon calculator to help retailers measure emissions generated by courier partners, offsetting them through projects that deliver economic, community, and social benefits. Shippit can also provide retailers with data to help them understand and optimise their operations, as well as leverage route optimisation solutions to assist with their carbon footprint reduction; these are available today.
Currently, 15% of deliveries originate within 15km, yet the average parcel travels approximately 722kms. Our efforts have already saved over 2,000,000 KMs of vans on the road, reflecting our commitment to achieving sustainable and efficient last-mile logistics.
If that doesn’t convince you of the necessity, nothing will.
